Translation: Here lies the late honourable man, faultless and righteous, our teacher and rabbi, Matityahu the son of Moshe, died the 18th of Kislev 5677

Translation: All the people will bewail the fire which spread through the Ahavat Achim synagogue. The Torah scrolls were consumed by it without any possibility of saving them or having mercy upon them, in the year 5660 (1899-1900). The soul of the letters therein departed to the heavens, whereas their paper bodies were taken to the earth. And in the year 5678 (1917-1918) a gravestone was erected in a gloomy atmosphere of all the company of Beit Shlomo.
