SMILEY, Muriel (nee Atkin) After a long and courageous battle, on Wednesday, January 6, 2010. It is with deep sadness that we mourn the loss of a beloved wife and best friend for fifty-four years of Jerry. Cherished mother and mother-in-law of Carin and Brian Byer, Elaine and Ian Groper, Robert and Elizabeth, Nancy and Richard Rockman. Adored and loving grandma of Erin and Samara Goldstein, Corey, Tara and Noah Groper, Jennifer and Jason Smiley, Adam, Jared and Tyler Rockman, Joy and David Szamosi, Jamie and David Byer. Proud great-grandma of Jake. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Harriet, Bonnie and Bill Herman, Norman and Rickie Smiley, and the late Sally Smiley. Sharing in our grief are her lifelong friends, Arlene and Avi. Muriel will be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews, family and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Stephen Caplan and his caring team, as well as Veronica, Joanne and Debbie for their exceptional care and support. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Friday, January 8 at 2 p.m. Burial at the Beth Zion Congregation Section, Eternal Gardens Cemetery, Beaconsfield. Shiva at her home, from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. daily.
