Obituary | Mendel Shapiro, president of Chevra Mishnayes, which he had helped found 40 years ago, died in Montreal on Tuesday. He was 95. Born in Russia, he settled in Montreal in 1913. Mr. Shapiro was a noted Orthodox Jewish Talmudic scholar. He was also president of the Mayer Hagola Yeshiva for 14 years and active in the Mesfita Yeshiva and various charitable organizations. He is survived by his wife, Soshe; four sons, Eli, Harry, Joe and Willie; three daughters, Sara (Mrs. H. Rabinovich), Fanny (Mrs. J. L. Pearl) and Edith (Mrs. David Gilbert). Shiva is being observed at 5260 St. Urbain St. |
