Obituary WEINER, Rose (nee Wisenthal) June 5, 1915 - August 3, 2018 Peacefully in Toronto, on Friday, August 3, 2018, just months after celebrating her one hundred and third birthday. Predeceased by her husband Dr. Hyman Weiner, her son Malcom Jacob, her parents Isidor and Bertha, her brothers Hyman and Dr. Miles (Mike) and her sister Florence. She is survived by her son Joel (Elaine Sigler) and her daughters Carolyn Isakson (Robert) and Enid, four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews across Canada, the United States, Israel and Australia. Rose was ahead of her time and led a remarkable life. Born and raised in Montreal (Westmount), she began a Bachelor of Arts degree at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario before transferring to the School of Nursing at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, where she graduated as a Registered Nurse eighty years ago in 1938. After working as a nurse, then marrying and raising a family in Montreal (Outremont), she returned to university in her forties to complete her B.A. at Sir George Williams University followed by an M.A. in Social Work at McGill University, and then worked for several years in that field. In her active years, Rose skied, golfed, swam, rode horses, played the piano, baked and spoke four languages. Later in life, she was an avid reader, theatre goer and Scrabble player, and took courses at the University of Toronto. After moving to the Terraces at Baycrest, she participated in many cultural and educational programs there and was especially proud of her writing and acting contributions to its theatre group. Rose regularly corresponded in beautiful handwritten letters with relatives and friends around the world. She will be missed by all who knew her, including many special friends in Toronto where she resided for the last several decades. The family deeply appreciates the wonderful staff at Sage Care and thanks them for their kind, loving and professional care and support of Rose in the last few years of her life. A Graveside service on Monday, August 6 at 11:00 a.m., at the New Memorial Extension (E-12), Baron de Hirsch Cemetery, 5015 de la Savane, Montreal. Shiva in Ottawa at 4 Rose Street, Tuesday through Friday, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Donations in Rose's memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
