SALTIEL, Jacques (Jack) Peacefully at home early Monday morning, August 10, 2015, in his 97th year. Born in Thessaloniki, Greece, grew up in the Great Depression, fought in the Greek Army in Albania in World War II, escaped the German Occupation with his beloved wife and life partner, Frida. They re-established themselves in Thessaloniki in 1945 and moved to Canada in 1958 for a better life, far from war. A pioneer in the retail ski business, he is survived by his three sons Henry, Albert and Nick; seven grandchildren, Karla, Melanie, Frida, Gabriela, Leah, Jacob and Benjamin; three great-grandchildren, Lucas, Hannah and Kasey. Many thanks to Dr. Nathan Sheiner and his team at Jewish General Hospital for their medical attention over a period of 30 years, to everyone at Le Mirage Bridge Club whose company and society motivated his every day, the golfers and staff at Meadowbrook Golf Club who made him look forward to every summer morning and Esther, his caregiver, who never gave up. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean-Talon St. W. on Thursday, August 13 at 1:00 p.m. Burial at the Baron de Hirsch Cemetery, de la Savane. |
