KRISHTALKA, Shifre (nee Shtern). Peacefully, on December 24, 2003 aged ninety-four, at the Montreal Jewish General Hospital. Beloved wife of the late Sholem Krishtalka (d.1977); and the last of her siblings, her sister Hene Dvora (Marder), and her brothers Yissacher, Jacob Zipper, Yekhiel, Sholem, and Yisroel Hersh Shtern, the children of Rabbi Abraham and Gittl (Zimmerman) Shtern. Born in Tyszowce (Tishevitz), Poland, she married Sholem and came to Canada in 1933, by vocation and profession a teacher of children. With love, passion, understanding and play, she taught generations of children Yiddish and traditions at the Jewish People's and Peretz Schools, and then taught teachers her art. Her passing is mourned by her children Freda (Mendie) Wisener, Aaron (Henie), and Leib (Beth), by her sister-in-law Amalia (Yisroel) Shtern, by her grandchildren Sheldon (Bonnie) and Allan (Temima) Wisener, Gideon (Laurie) and Sholem Krishtalka, and Mollie and Zack Krishtalka, and by her great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces, whom she knew and loved with devotion and joy. Her family gives special thanks to Mr. L. Feldman and his staff for their faith, devotion and understanding, to Shifre's companions Vaneeta and Bharti, and to Ricky, and the medical staff of 7 North West at the Jewish General Hospital for their attentive care and humanity. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon West on Sunday, December 28 at 10:45 a.m. Burial at the Jewish Assistance Cemetery, de la Savane. Shiva private.
