WELIKOVITCH (WELIK), Goldie Born in Montreal, on October 25, 1937, passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2015. A private funeral service and burial took place on September 21. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Sylvia and the late Milton Cytryn, Beatrice and late Mort Welik, the late Ralph and the late Irene Welikovitch. She is survived by her nieces, nephews, many friends, and countless students. Goldie attended the Jewish People's School and Strathcona High School. She earned her teaching diploma from McDonald's College for Teachers, began teaching at age seventeen in the Montreal Public Schools, simultaneously instructing students in her home, and completing her B.A. at night in Sir George Williams College. During summers, Goldie earned her M.S. in Reading at Syracuse University Graduate School. After teaching for many years in the regular public school, she taught in the Day Treatment Program at the Jewish General Hospital and continued instruction of students of all ages in her home. A life-long teacher, her tutoring at home continued even after her retirement from the Day Treatment Program. Goldie taught tirelessly. She taught students to read who could not and through the process taught them to appreciate literature, history, and the arts. Goldie taught us all to love and laugh. Known as a woman of great insight, wisdom and dignity, Goldie was passionate about education, music, art, and literature. She challenged herself and others to see the world with depth, humour, and beauty. Goldie, "You were but a passing shadow, but you remain the same and your years will never end".
