Obituary FRIEDLANSKY, Gerald (Gary), B.A., LL.L. October 1, 1937 October 2, 2018 One day after his birthday, on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, in his eighty-first year, due to the complications of post-polio syndrome. Son of the late Louis Friedlansky and the late Jean Levy. Older brother of Morton Friedland (Zarie Touizer) and Donna Friedlansky (Michael Held). Uncle of David Held, Debra Friedlansky (Raymond Yust), Karen Friedland, Sara Held, and Matthew Held (Maria Cook). Great-uncle of Louis and Kayla Friedland-Yust; Jacqueline and Jaime Kunin. Gerald contracted polio in 1948 and was confined to a wheelchair as a result. Despite this, he always focused on his abilities. After spending two years in hospital, he came home and continued his education. Four of his buddies would each grab a corner of his wheelchair and run him up the stairs to the top floor of Baron Byng High School for class, where he was known as Gary Friedland. Despite these challenges, he was an excellent student, graduating from Sir George Williams College (BA 1955) and Universite de Montreal (Notarial Law, 1960). As a respected Quebec notary, Gerald maintained his practice for forty-three years, with clientele from the Hellenic and Jewish communities, and the general public. Despite his limitations, he never wallowed in self-pity and lived his life to the fullest. He was always generous and leaves a big void in the hearts of all who knew him. As per Gerald's wishes, there will be no formal funeral, eulogy or shiva. To say a final goodbye, we will be gathering for a graveside service on Friday, October 5 at 11:00 a.m., at the North End Wilkomirer Cemetery (B1), 5015 rue de la Savane. Arrangements entrusted to Paperman & Sons. Gary will forever remain in our hearts and in our minds. R.I.P., BH
