HECHTMAN, Mollie (nee Berlind) At home, in her sleep, on Thursday, March 10, 2011, at the age of ninety-five, after a long, eventful life. Wife of the late Irving Hechtman. Adored mother and mother-in-law of Peter and Lily, and the late Ann. Proud grandmother of Ken and Jeremy, and great-grandmother of Jacob and Jimi-T. Predeceased by her dear siblings, Hyman, Bella, Morris, Eve and Ida, and brother-in-law, Harold. She will be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews, and friends in the US. Mollie was a committed political activist since her youth. She rallied around the causes of Republican Spain and the US Civil Rights movement. More recently, she was a founder of the New Jersey chapter for Mentally Retarded Citizens and an officer in the local chapter of the Gray Panther movement. The family is deeply indebted to Drs. Paul Lysy and Magdi Sami for their devoted care and responsiveness, and to her caregivers, Julieta Calicdan and Rochelle Parangan for all their help. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Sunday, March 13 at 12 noon. Burial at the Baron de Hirsch Cemetery, de la Savane. Shiva at her son's home, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. daily, through Tuesday evening. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mollie's memory may be made to the Giant Steps School, 5460 Connaught Ave., Montreal QC H4V 1X7, or to the charity of your choice. |
