SIEMIATYCKI, Tauba (nee Szarfharc) It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Tauba Siemiatycki (nee Sharfarcz), on Thursday, September 3, 2009, in Toronto at the age of eighty-four. Beloved wife of the late Mordechai Motl Siemiatycki. Much loved mother and mother-in-law of Jack and Lesley (Richardson), Myer and Gail (Benick), Benita Siemiatycki and Gary Katz, Debbie and Avi Slodovnick. Stepmother of Helen Neudorf (the late Zalman). Predeceased by baby son David. "Bubbie Tauba" will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Emma and Kate Siemiatycki; Matti and Elliot Siemiatycki; Jamie, Daniel and Jenna Katz; Paul Ephraim, Noam, and Mark Mordechai Slodovnick. Tauba was born in Sydlowiec, Poland to Devorah and Aaron Szarfharc in 1925. Her happy childhood was brutally ended with the onset of anti-Jewish violence of the Holocaust. As one of the minority of Polish Jews to survive the Holocaust, the only one in her family, Tauba married Mordechai after liberation. Together with Helen, they left Europe and, with sorrow in their hearts and hope in their eyes, they started a new life and a new family in Canada. Infused with Jewish values of faith, ethics, family and the power of learning, they lovingly raised their family in Montreal where she spent most of her life. Tauba took pleasure in spending time with her children and grandchildren, and in gardening, cooking, and singing. Graveside service on Friday, September 4 at 1:30 p.m. at the Memorial Park Cemetery, 5015 rue de la Savane. Shiva at 106 Columbia Ave., Westmount (near Greene and Dorchester) until Sunday. Shiva will continue from Monday, September 7 to Thursday, September 10, in Ottawa and Toronto, for details, visit www.paperman.com . Donations in Taubas memory may be made to the Montreal Public Jewish Library, (514)345-2627 ext.: 3332, or Toronto Holocaust Center, (416) 635-2883 ext.: 301. |
