Obituary | It is with profound heartbreak that we share the passing of our beloved mother, Daisy Gabbay Gourdji, on Sunday, July 12, 2020. Devoted wife of the late Albert Gourdji. Beloved and adored mother of Allan, Glen and Frances; and loved mother-in-law of Vera, Robin, and Marc. Cherished grandmother of Chloe, Joelle, Jessica, Shayne, Alec, and Talia. Predeceased by her parents, Lulu and Mourad Gabbay, and her siblings, Nadji Gabbay (the late Marguerite), Renée Sheeri (the late Naim), Salim Gabbay (Victoria), Saleh Gabbay (the late Laura), and Morris Gabbay (the late Rina). Daisy also leaves behind her sister Saida, her closest friend and confidante.
She was the biggest part of all our lives. Daisy was the kind of mother who revered family above all else. She loved us all beyond measure and showed us that love with every breath and step she took. All of us share an unbreakable bond thanks to her strength and belief in family. We were all her joy and reason for being. She lived most of her life joyously and fearlessly, bringing happiness, love, and adventure to those around her. More than anyone, Daisy could not stand sitting idle at home. Life just held too many possibilities and too many adventures for her to let pass her by. Her entire life up, until these last few months, was spent finding something to do and somewhere to go. When we were children, mom would always grab us kids and take us on some unexpected adventure. Whether it was waking us up at 4 a.m. and putting us in a boat to go fishing or driving us to some other province or town to see what mom thought would be fun, she filled our lives with memorable and exciting experiences and continued to do so for as long as she was physically capable. She shared that same love of life with her grandchildren, extended family, and the many friends she had around her that she loved and who loved her right back. We cannot express how much she will be missed and the space she occupies in our hearts forever. The family would like to express their gratitude to the Dialysis team at the Jewish General Hospital for their thoughtfulness and caring of these challenged patients. A private graveside service will take place on Tuesday, July 14. Contributions in Daisy's memory may be made to the Dialysis Unit c/o the Jewish General Hospital Foundation, (514) 340-8251. |
