Obituary Unexpectedly but peacefully after a short illness at the age of sixty-five on Saturday, February 17, 2024. Neil was the beloved son of the late Joan and the late Morty Leibovitch. Most cherished and loved younger brother and brother-in-law of Susan and David Linds. Older brother of Alan Leibovitch. Neil will be fondly remembered by his two nephews, Jonathan and Justin.

Since he was seventeen years old, Neil suffered with severe mental health challenges. As devastating as the disease was to his life, it didn’t rob him of his warm and lovable nature.

During visits with Neil, he enjoyed reminiscing about family and friends and the good times he had before his illness. Remarkably, he remembered almost every detail about everything and everyone from his better days. We never got tired of sharing these moments together.

Throughout his lifetime Neil was supported immeasurably by the dedicated doctors, nurses and social workers at The Montreal Douglas Hospital.

The last eight years Neil lived in a loving group home where he was treated with understanding, respect and compassion from the amazing and dedicated caregivers.

During his recent illness, Neil was at the Royal Victoria Hospital, where the medical team on C9 North showed great sensitivity to his unique requirements and wishes.

To each caregiver and health care professional who supported Neil throughout his life our family is so deeply grateful.

For everyone who knew Neil at any time in his life he had a way of remaining in their hearts forever.

A family graveside service took place on Wednesday, February 21 at the Congregation Shaar Hashomayim Cemetery. If you wish, please consider making a donation in Neil’s memory to the Douglas Foundation, (514) 761-6131, ext. 2781 or 3525 Monday and Thursday only, or to a mental health organization of your choice.
