Obituary | Peacefully and surrounded by love, on Tuesday September 26, 2023, in her eighty-fourth year. Beloved wife of the late George Klein. Devoted mother and mother-in-law of Gila Klein, Alicia and Henry Harris. Adored grandmother of Georgia and Eva Harris. Loved partner of Sidney Cutler for more than twenty-three years. Cherished daughter of the late Eva and the late Jack Raphael. Treasured sister and sister-in-law of Charles and Hilda Raphael, Goldye and the late Harold (Red) Raphael; and sister-in-law of Susan and Mervyn Rosenstein, Enid and the late Mitchell Klein, Andrea and the late Leonard Klein. Barbara will be sadly missed by many, including her nieces, nephews, and dear friends who became lifelong close family.
Barbara made a mark on this world. She lived a wonderful life. Her dynamic persona, gracious confidence, and ability to live life to the fullest made her pivotal in the lives of her family and close friends. She was a creator of family relationships, always hosting and preparing dinners and occasions for family and friends with great style, excellent food, and a unique warm hospitality. Barbara was herself magnificently beautiful, both inside and out. She loved the outdoors, appreciated the colours painted by nature and prioritized outdoor activities: at different life stages, walking, skiing, biking, swimming, and tennis. Barbara travelled extensively with George, their special friends, Gayle, Robert, Luca and Danny, and later with Sid. Barbara had great taste and an appreciation of artistry, music, and for the performing and visual arts at home and while travelling. She herself was talented at photography and home decor and loved to play music and dance with friends and family. Barbara and George had a wonderful marriage and created a great life for their daughters, Gila and Alicia. Barbara retained a special bond with Susan and Mervyn Rosenstein throughout her life. She was a dedicated and loving grandmother, travelling regularly between Montreal and Toronto to bring her food, energy, and love for visits with Georgia and Eva. Barbara was also a cat whisperer – loved by family cats over the years. The family is deeply grateful to Baycrest Terraces and the Temmy Latner Centre teams for their care.
