Obituary After a lengthy illness on Thursday, December 3, 2025. Beloved husband of Marilyn Brownstein for 60 years. Devoted father of Heather Golfman and Stuart Golfman. Cherished Papa of Skylar and Mackenzy Shatilla. Son of the late Max and the late Hilda Golfman, and son-in-law of the late Gerald and the late Shirley Brownstein. Dear brother of the late Harold Golfman; brother-in-law of Debra and Bill Brownstein, Veronica and Stephen Brownstein. Walter will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his angels Heidi, Karen and Maria-Fe for their care, kindness and devotion, as well as the compassionate staff of 5 south Maimonides for their care, kindness and devotion.

Walter was an avid golfer who travelled the world pursuing his love of the game and spending time with many friends, enjoying life to the fullest. He was passionate about classical music, his extensive book collection, and anything related to history. Above all, his greatest joy came from the many trips he took around the world with his beloved Marilyn.

Funeral service from Paperman and Sons, 3888 Jean-Talon St. W. on Friday, December 5th at 11:00 a.m. Burial at the Congregation Shaar Hashomayim Cemetery, 1250 chemin de la Forêt. Shiva at his home following burial until 3:00 p.m., Saturday 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Sunday 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Donations in his memory may be made to the “Marilyn and Walter Golfman Fund for Neurology” c/o the Jewish General Hospital Foundation (514) 340-8251, or to the Donald Berman Maimonides Foundation (514) 483-2121 ext. 72207.
