It is with great sadness that the family of Florence Ortenberg announces her passing on Thursday, September 21, 2023, in her one hundredth year. Devoted wife of the late Aaron (Archie) Ortenberg. Beloved mother and mother-in-law of Joe and Karen, Anne, June and Carl Frymel, Edward and Marcy. Cherished Grandma of Carol Ortenberg and Terry Lozoff, Robin Ortenberg and Andrew Epstein; Margot, Deanna, and Eden Frymel; Jill Ortenberg and Chris Voipan, and Allie Ortenberg. Proud great-grandmother of Sascha Aaron Epstein. Predeceased by her siblings and their spouses, Frank and Sara Gersovitz, Dorothy and Theodore Freedman, Ben and Sarah Gersovitz. Sister-in-law of the late Rose Novick. Florence will be lovingly remembered by her nieces, nephews, family, and friends. She lived a long and happy life enriched by her positive outlook, her perseverance, and her strong sense of purpose. Florence was a woman ahead of her time graduating from McGill in Biochemistry in 1945 to work in obstetrics research at the Royal Victoria Hospital. The consummate mother, she took a long hiatus from work to raise her four children. She was a shining example of human kindness to all and devotion to family. Heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Ilan Benjamin for his exceptional care and support. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Sunday, September 24 at 10:00 a.m. Burial at Congregation Shaar Hashomayim Cemetery, 1250 ch. de la ForĂȘt. Due to the onset of Yom Kippur, shiva ends Sunday afternoon.
