Obituary It is with deep sadness that we announce Esther’s peaceful passing on Thursday, September 17, 2020 in Montreal, Quebec. Affectionately known as Morah Regev, she will be lovingly remembered. Esther is survived by her three cherished children and their spouses, Evi and Siobhan, Avishag and Aaron, and Ronnie and Julia, her dear siblings, Shoshana Bichler and Leon Cohen, nieces, nephews, extended family, and her countless friends, many of whom were by her side until the very last days. Proud and beloved Nana of Maya and Yoni of Toronto, and Sammy and Ben of California; no train ride or flight was ever too long to see them. Their beloved “Nana Banana” will forever remain with them in their hearts. Esther is predeceased by her loving parents, Avraham and Miriam Cohen (z’l), brothers Itzik and Aharaon (Ronnie) Cohen (z’l), all buried on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, and her ex-husband Gabriel Regev (z’l). A pillar of the Montreal community, Esther touched the lives of generations of students, faculty and colleagues at the JPPS-Bialik school system where she spent much of her 40-year teaching career. Along with her dedication to education, Esther was committed to strengthening Montreal’s Israeli and Jewish culture by volunteering and supporting a wide variety of events and fundraisers. The family would like to express its sincere gratitude to: The Montreal Neurological Institute for their exceptional care, the CLSC Home Care Team and Mount Sinai Hospital Montreal for providing comfort and unparalleled Palliative care in her final months. Special thanks to Esther’s dedicated care providers Macrina and Katrina and others who remained by her side throughout the pandemic and providing continued comfort right to her final days. A private graveside service to be held in Montreal. Due to the advent of Rosh Hashanah, there will be no Shiva. In lieu of gifts, donations in Esther’s memory may be made to the Montreal Neurological Hospital, (866) 864-9735 or the Mount Sinai Hospital Foundation (Montreal), (514) 369-2222 ext. 1299.
