ELJAKIM BEN-SHIR On March 23, 1993, Eljakim Getzel Ben-Shir died. He had a very hard life. He was the sole survivor of a family of one-hundred and eighteen people, lost in the Holocaust. He mourned and missed them all of his life. During WWII he saved the lives of twenty children. As a member of the Haganah he risked his life repeatedly to save others and bring about the State of Israel. As a life long teacher he started an underground Hebrew school in Iran, and in Canada he taught in Talmud Torah for seventeen years. He loved his students and they loved him in return. These were the best years of his life. In August 1968 he founded Hobby World. He lived for his family and was a strong support both emotionally and financially. He will be sorely missed by family, friends and students. |
