Incredibly devoted husband and best friend of Roslyn (Ookie) Silverman Kazenel for over sixty-six years. Loving Dad of Laurence Kazenel, and Elayne Kazenel Weigensberg and Cary Weigensberg. Grampy of Jamie Weigensberg and Irit Gur, Mandy Weigensberg, Shane Weigensberg "Our Angel," Jodi Kazenel and David Kazenel. Great-Grampy of Dylan and Jonah Shane Weigensberg. Son of the late Esther Liverman and the late Samuel Kazenel and incredible son-in-law of the late Bella Press Silverman Singer. Brother and brother-in-law of the late Gerald Kazenel, the late Sybil Kazenel Carsley and the late Morty Carsley, and Beverly Silverman Fields. Involved uncle of Charles Fields, Jeffrey Fields and Leona and Wayne Baker-Fields.
Jay lived a full and healthy life for 89 years. His wife was the luckiest of all as he looked after her with every molecule in his body and held onto life for many extra months because he didn't want to leave her. Besides his family, his proudest accomplishment was Kay's Jewellery, the flea market business that Jay, Roslyn and their family built together, with love, sweat and lots of hard work. Everywhere he went, people remembered him from his younger days at the "Y" and "The Rec" flea market. In recent years, Jay thoroughly enjoyed painting classes at The Cote St. Luc Men's Club and developed an artistic talent that surprised both him and others. He created his unique style of treasured and wonderful artwork, which he loved to share and gift. Jay will be remembered and missed by many lifelong friends, cousins, nieces and nephews and people whose lives he touched. Jay loved to be called only "Jay," to everyone - even all the people who ultimately took care of him. Extra special thanks to the beyond amazing nurses, PABs, staff, and Dr. Earl Edelstein of the Jewish Eldercare, where he was treated with dignity, humanity and great compassion. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Sunday, June 12 at 11:00 a.m. Burial at B'nai Brith Congregation Section, Kehal Israel Cemetery, D.D.O. Shiva Sunday following burial until 4:00 p.m., and Monday and Tuesday 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Donations in Jay Kazenel's memory may be made to The Donald Berman Jewish Eldercare Centre Foundation at 514-738-4500-ext 2124. |
