Obituary COHEN, Rabbi Maurice Seymour Peacefully in his sleep, on Sunday, February 5, 2012, at the age of ninety-two. Devoted husband of the late Rochelle Mirsky Cohen. Proud father and father-in-law of Dr. Aviva Cohen of San Francisco, and Drs. Raphael and Andrea Cohen of Philadelphia. Loving grandfather of Dr. Arielle and Gregory Friedman, and Dr. Micah and Amy Cohen, all of New York, and great-grandfather of Boaz Daniel Friedman. Predeceased by his brother, Dr. Sydney Carter, of Massachusetts. Rabbi Emeritus of the Shaare Zion Congregation, Rabbi Cohen was a scholar and Revered Rabbi of his congregation for over 50 years. A native Bostonian, he graduated from Harvard University, and The Jewish Theological Seminary in New York. He was one of the leaders of Conservative Judaism in Montreal, and one of the founders of the Solomon Schechter Academy. He supported the participation of women in the rabbinate, and was a member of the Interfaith Ecumenical Council for many years. He received an Honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from the JTS, and authored several books of sermonics. Special thanks to Donna Thomas, his devoted caregiver for many years, as well as the staff at Manoir Montefiore and the Waldorf. Funeral Service at Shaare Zion Congregation, 5575 Cote-St-Luc Rd., on Wednesday, February 8 at 1 p.m. Burial at the Shaare Zion Congregation Section, Eternal Gardens Cemetery, Beaconsfield.
