Obituary Peacefully on Monday, May 2, 2022 in his ninety-fourth year. Beloved husband and best friend of Lisette Goddard for sixty-two years. Loving father and father-in-law of Susan Marshall and Brian Kasner, Adele Marshall and Michael Shapiro, Alan Marshall and Andrea Yampolsky. Devoted grandfather of Melanie Kasner and Benjamin Wohl, Danielle Kasner and Andrew Sherman, Max Kasner, Ariel Shapiro and Stephanie Feldman, Janna Shapiro, Jessica Marshall, Harry Marshall. Great-grandfather of Zelda Rose Sherman. Cherished brother and brother-in-law of Judith Marshall and the late Willy Olsen.

David was born and raised in Montreal, and astonished his parents by going to MIT to get a PhD in organic chemistry. He returned to Montreal and went to work in the pharmaceutical industry, a career in research spent mostly at Ayerst, that spanned more than 40 years. He was set up on a blind date with a pretty young lady who also had a graduate degree, and they were married 8 months later. It was a loving and tender partnership until the very end, when David’s face would still light up when Lisette came into the room.

David was an avid gardener, and could be found most summer weekends tending to his rosebushes or pruning the apple trees on Merton Crescent. He was a lifelong birdwatcher, and a lover of classical music. In his later years he was happiest entertaining his grandchildren, sharing cheerios with them at the breakfast table and teaching them how to use his computer.

The family wishes to thank Jackie Percs and the team from Golden Home Care for their kindness and assistance. Special thanks to David’s angel caregivers Gloria, Edgar, Rolan and Mary Joy who allowed us to keep David comfortable and peaceful at home. Thanks also to Dr Michael Kalin for being so caring and compassionate.
