Obituary LEON JEDEIKIN January 20, 1933 - July 13, 2012 It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected and untimely death of Leon Jedeikin on Friday, July 13, 2012. Born in Kobe, Japan, to Sonia and Samuel Jedeikin, Leon spent the war years in Shanghai. The family moved to Italy after the war, then settled in Montreal in 1949. Leon was a graduate of McGill University, Faculty of Law in 1960, was admitted to the Bar of Quebec in 1961, and has been a respected and active member of the Montreal legal community since then. Devastated by his death are his loving wife and closest friend, Esti (Caplan); his beloved children: David Jedeikin, Naomi and Jonathan Starr, Tamara and Jason Arbeiter, and Miri and Joseph McKelheer; his adored and adoring grandchildren: Jackson, Sam and Layla Starr; Lola and Jacob Arbeiter; Hunter McKelheer, who were the light of his life and a source of boundless joy. Mourning his loss are his sister and brother-in-law, Jeannette and Ellie Singerman; his brothers-and sisters-in-law in Israel: Ella and Zvi Weizman, and Samuel and Yudit Caplan; his nieces and nephews in Canada and in Israel; his aunts, Lou Gercik and Rachel Cohen; the Lightman Family in London, England; many cousins around the globe; as well as friends, associates, and colleagues too numerous to count. Leon touched the lives of so many. His warmth, affability, keen sense of humour, and interest in people transcended barriers of age, religion, nationality or language. He had 'the common touch' that enabled him to connect on a personal level with everyone he met. He will be remembered with love and his memory will forever be a blessing. The dedicated and attentive care Leon received in the Emergency Room and in the Cardiac Care Unit at the Jewish General Hospital is deeply appreciated. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Tuesday, July 17 at 12 noon. Burial at the Dorshei Emet Reconstructionist Congregation Section, Eternal Gardens Cemetery, Beaconsfield. Shiva at his home, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. daily, ending Sunday, July 22. Prayers 7:30 p.m. daily. Contributions in his memory may be made to the "Leon Jedeikin Memorial Fund" c/o the Jewish General Hospital Foundation, (514) 340-8251, or to the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre, (514) 345-2605.
