Obituary COHEN, Avron 1923 - 2012 Peacefully in his sleep, on Thursday, March 15, 2012, at the age of eighty-nine. Beloved husband of Shirley Rind Cohen for sixty-two years. Proud father of Dr. Alan (Tammy Matte), Dr. Robin (Paul Kates) and Dr. Leslie (Sam Clement). Loving grandfather of Alice Kates, Milton Villarrubia and Schanda Handley. Son of the late Annie and the late B. I. Cohen. Brother of the late Clarence Cohen and the late Eunice Fogel. Brother-in-law of Pearl Schoenberg of New York. Thanks to his devoted caregiver, Jean-Paul and to Dr. Sam Benaroya. A graduate of Queen's University (Arts '44), he and Shirley devoted many years to running the Montreal alumni branch. In his youth, he worked summers for the Canada Steamship Lines, where he met Shirley. He stayed friends with his Queen's and CSL buddies all his life. An optician, Avron charmed the clients at B. I. Cohen with his funny stories, until he retired at the age of eighty-three. He is a past Vice-President of the"Ordre des Opticiens d'Ordonnances,"and was a professor at the school of opticians in Montreal. Charter member of Hillsdale, where he played until eighty-seven. He will be deeply missed. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Sunday, March 18 at 11 a.m. Burial at the Beth-El Congregation Section, Eternal Gardens Cemetery, Beaconsfield. Shiva private, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. daily, ending Tuesday, March 20.
