Obituary | Peacefully, on Wednesday July 24, 2024 in his one hundred fourth year. Beloved husband of the late Mamie Cooper for sixty-one years. Devoted father and father-in-law of Jane and Allan, and the late Bobby. Dear brother and brother-in-law of the late Harry and the late Sally Kay, the late Ruth and the late David Krauss; and brother-in-law of the late Gerry Cooper and Frances Barry, Adeline Slapcoff and Bill Ornstein, and the late Ziggy Slapcoff. Allan will be sadly missed by his nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Special thanks to his caregivers, Lettie, Jingle, Katz, and Paolo, for their dedication. Much gratitude to the Doctors, Nurses, and Staff at the Vigi Reine Elizabeth residence for their care and compassion.
Allan lived a long and full life. Born in Poland in 1920, he moved to Brooklyn at the age of three with his mother and sister. He served as a Staff Sergeant during the war, flying thirty three missions aboard a B-17 bomber. For gallantry, he was awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross, five Air Medals, five European Medals, and two Presidential Citations. Unlike most bombers, he returned unscathed. Shortly after, at a chance encounter in Montreal, Allan met his future wife, Mamie Cooper. They built a loving and happy family in Montreal. Allan was always a joy to be with, and made other people smile. Graveside service on Friday, July 26 at 1:15 p.m. at the Temple Emanu-El Beth Sholom Congregation Section, Eternal Gardens Cemetery, Beaconsfield. Reception following burial on Friday at Allan and Jane’s home. Donations in Allan’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice. |
