BESSNER, Morton On Tuesday, September 25, 2018. Beloved husband and best friend of Mildred Kolodny (née Bercovitch). Son of the late Jack and the late Mary Bessner. Dearest father and father-in-law of Ellin Bessner and John Friedlan, Brenda and Kenny Adessky. He loved and was much loved by Vita Kolodny and Mel Krajden, Karen Kolodny and Hank Amon. Treasured grandpa of Jacob, Avery and Noah Adessky; Alexander and Evan Friedlan; Oren Krajden, Naomi Krajden and Todd Cope; Carly and Joey Amon. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Elaine and the late Leo Guttman, and brother-in-law of David and Diane Birk. Morton will be lovingly remembered by his nieces, Judy, Gita and Louise. He was loved by all who knew him and made everyone who met him smile. While a successful commercial lawyer, Morton devoted his time to the Jewish community and was connected to the State of Israel. He was the President of Centennial Lodge of B'nai Brith and of Herzl Health Centre, a Chairman of the Young Leadership Development Committee of Combined Jewish Appeal and of the Metropolitan Division of Combined Jewish Appeal, an Honorary Legal Counsel to Congregation Beth-El, and was appointed by the Government of Québec to the Board of Directors of Vanier College pursuant to Bill 71, he was also the President of the Lord Reading Law Society, Chairman of Québec Region of Canadian Jewish Congress, Counsellor of the Barreau de Montréal, and, for many years, Chairman of the March to Jerusalem and President of its sponsoring organization - the Jewish Cultural Association. The family would like to recognize the help of Dr. Fred Saad of the CHUM. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Thursday, September 27 at 12:00 noon. Burial at the Dorshei Emet Reconstructionist Congregation Section, Eternal Gardens Cemetery, Beaconsfield. Shiva at his daughter Brenda's home. Due to the Festival of Succoth, shiva commences Tuesday evening, October 2. |
