Obituary | It is with great sadness that the family of Sylvia Dollin announces the passing of their inspiring matriarch on Saturday, May 1, 2021, in her one hundredth year, after succumbing to a brief period of illness. She was born in Montreal and lived most of her life there. Devoted wife of the late Alec Dollin. In the recent years, Sylvia moved to live independently in an Ottawa retirement home close to her loving children, Barry Dollin and Helen Berolo, Janet Dollin and Zave Chad. She will be lovingly remembered as the always present and devoted “Grammy” by her eight treasured grandchildren, Philana Dollin and Leah Riendeau, Nick Berolo and Mary Sheriden, Sandra Dollin and Greg Bulte, Sophia Berolo and Owen Gallupe, Katie Dollin and Andrew Gemmell, Andrew Chad and Morgan Waddell, Lauren Chad and Charles LeBlanc, Eric Chad and Kate DeLorme; and as a proud great-grandmother to her nine great-grandchildren, Neta, Levi, Rosa, Jane, Evelyn, Asher, Riely, Noah and Cole. Predeceased by her siblings, Goldie Kahne (the late Harold), Bernice Klamph (the late Sam), and Boris Shapiro. Sylvia will be remembered as the matriarch by the family that she cared for and nourished with her late husband and will be deeply missed by her youngest brother, Harvey Shapiro, her sister-in-law Rita Shapiro, her nieces and nephews, as well as by a circle of evolving, collaborative, important friends over the years. She was a wonderful role model to most people who knew her and will be remembered for her patience, adaptability, dignity, and wisdom.
The family would like to thank the medical staff at the Montfort Hospital in Ottawa for their excellent care and help in our time of need. A private graveside service to take place on Monday, May 3. A strictly private shiva to follow.
