Evelyn BAUMHOLZ HIMES (1925 - 2006)

Mrs. EVELYN HIMES She passed away on December 18, 2006. She was born in Montreal and lived her early years behind her father's shoe repair "hospital" on Catherine Street East at Viau. She attended Maisonneuve Elementary School and the Commercial High School of Montreal. She commenced work as a bookkeeper. She married the late Phil Himes. She was his loving and inseparable wife for fifty-four years. Together they successfully raised and educated their three children Mel, Andrea and Rhonda, ensuring that they achieved their highest academic potential. They were adoring and unstinting grandparents of Allison and Valerie. She returned to school to realize her life long ambition to be an artist. She enrolled at Ecole des Beaux Arts de Montreal where she participated with a joie de vivre in her new milieu. She received her degree in 1971 with a Baccalaureate Specialise en Enseignent Arts Plastiques. On graduation she joined the Montreal Catholic School Commission as an Art Specialist. She taught E.C Fabre Junior High School, St. Pius X High School at John F. Kennedy Comprehensive High School, Papineau High School and Marymount Academy. She was an innovative and caring teacher who imbued her students with an appreciation of her cherished metier. She with her husband were founding members of Congregation Beth El. They were untiring workers who helped ensure the establishment of the new institution. She played a major role in the early years of the Beth El Sisterhood. She was one of a group of women who because of a friend's child with cerebral palsy, recognized the need to provide support services. They formed Unit Three of the Cerebral Palsy Association of Quebec. She was an organizer for the unit's fund raising events and an active worker for the provincial association in its early years. She was a caring daughter of her parents and a totally supportive sibling of her brother and sister. She was a devoted wife and true mother to her children. She was an enthralled grandparent. She was a loyal friend. A true human being.
