Obituary PITKEVITCH, Nelly (nee Chusid) December 1929 – February 2015 On Valentine's Day, February 14, 2015, our beloved Nelly passed away at the age of eighty-three. Wife of the late Felix Pitkevitch. Loving and devoted mother and mother-in-law of Rona and Eddie Cukier, Eileen, and Jeffrey. Cherished grandmother of Samantha and Charles, and Jonathan. Proud great-grandmother of Tehva. Predeceased by her loving mother, Rose Chusid. Nelly will be always remembered and loved by her relatives in the United States and Israel. Born in Romania, she suffered the indignities that war brings; famine, homelessness, poverty, and loss of family. Like many others, she came to Canada with not much more than the clothes on her back. Nelly was an indomitable force, always working to support herself. She soon married, and together with her late husband Felix she created a warm and supportive home for their three children. To the end she was blessed with a sharp mind and an unfailing memory, she remembered the minutest of details, and would often amaze us with dates and events that others had long forgotten. She was never at a loss for words, and always had an opinion ready to debate with whoever was willing. She and Felix loved entertaining, and the family home became a home away from home for many of their friends. Nelly was a member of the Workmen's Circle since 1983. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of 7 West, at the Jewish General Hospital, especially to Dr. Hiltzenrat and Dr. Stephanie Kelly, as well as her devoted nurses; and to the compassionate staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Mount Sinai Hospital. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Monday, February 16 at 3:15 p.m. Burial at the Montreal Workers' Circle Cemetery, de la Savane. Shiva at Rona and Eddie's home, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. daily. Donations in Nelly's memory may be made to the Federation CJA, (514) 345-2645 ext.: 6460.
