BURSTEIN, Genia (nee Minkowitch) On Saturday, April 3, 2010, in her ninety-eighth year. Loving and beloved wife of the late Michael Burstein. She and her "Michal" were both survivors of the Holocaust, both the sole survivors of their families, an important part of the bond of devotion between them. Bubby was the loving mother of Meyer (Marie-France) and Sam (Roz) and the doting grandmother of Ari, Dan, Michelle, Amanda, Caroline (Derek), Francois (Eliane) and Charles. She didn't know well but loved at a distance her great-grandchildren, Sidney, Tia, and Liam. She will be remembered and missed by her former colleagues, friends, and students. Genia developed a special bond with her companion, Evina, whom she came to depend upon for her steady, loving presence. Graveside service took place on Sunday, April 4, at the Montreal Workers' Circle Cemetery, de la Savane. Shiva strictly private. Donations in her memory may be made to a charity dedicated to the education and welfare of children. |
