SHTERN, Israel Hirsh Dr. (Yisroel Zvi) Z L. Born in Tishevitz, Poland on Oct. 11 (Yom Kippur) 1913, he was a renaissance man. Professor of mathematics at McGill and Loyola, poet laureate (Ish Yair), philosopher, scholar, idealist, union organizer, party leader, Zionist, Yiddishist, vice principal of Jewish Peretz School. He was a mystic, had Ahavas Yisroel and was a descendant of Irah the Jairite (Ira Hayairi). Survived by his devoted wife of fifty-seven years, Amalia, loving children Adele (Aydel), Avrom David (Avrayml), Yona and Nathalie; grandchildren Sarah (Sureh Hene), Jake (Yaacov Binyomin) and Isabelle (Minnie Bayleh Ruchel); sister Shifra Meerl Krishtalka, nephews, nieces and cousins. Son of the late Rab Avrum and Gittl Shtern, brother of the late, Sucher Aryeh Laib, Jacob (Yankel Yitzhok) and Sorkeh Zipper Shtern, Yechiel Menachem and Sureh, Sholem Yosef and Sonyeh, Heneh Dvoireh and Aaron Marder and Sholem Krishtalka. Passed away Oct. 17, 2000 at age eighty-seven after a prolonged illness. Buryach Dayin Emes. Funeral at Paperman and sons, 3888 Jean Talon West on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 10 am. Burial at Tifereth Beth David Jerusalem Congregation Cemetery, Kehal Jeshrun Section, de la Savane.
