With broken hearts and deep sadness, we announce the passing of David Rinzler on Saturday, January 30, 2021. Beloved husband, Beshert and best friend of the late Sara Rotsztein Z”L for fifty-three years. Loving and adored father and father-in-law of Rosaleen and David Hutman, Larry and Tiffany Rinzler. Proud and cherished Zaidy Didi of Joshua, Zachary, and Benjamin Hutman and Lucy, Oliver, and Bradley Rinzler. Dear son-in-law of Doba Aizenstat, brother-in-law of Linda Rotsztein, Eibi and Tammy Aizenstat. Adored Uncle of Raquel Szalachman. Beloved son of the late Chaim and the late Rosa Rinzler, and dear brother of the late Mina and Ruben Szalachman. He leaves family and friends around the world broken hearted.
Born in Czernowitz Bukovina, in 1941, Didi immigrated to Cochabamba Bolivia as a young child, having escaped the Ghetto in Czernowitz with his parents and sister Mina. Life in Bolivia had some of its greatest challenges, as well as some of its greatest rewards. He met his beloved Sara there as well as forged some of his strongest and most enduring friendships.
Sara and Didi moved to Montreal in 1968, after having wed in La Paz in 1967. Didi began working at the Jewish General Hospital as a Pharmacist. This was a position he held with distinction for 47 years, until his retirement. Didi may have left Bolivia over 50 years ago, but Bolivia never left him.
Didi had many passions in life, but his deepest and most meaningful ones were his wife Sara, children Rosaleen (David), Larry (Tiffany) and his Grandchildren, his extended family and his close knit group of friends. He enjoyed his pursuits in genealogy, where he spent many hours working on his family tree. He also received a lot of enjoyment with his daily zoom and phone conversations with family and friends in every corner of the world.
Didi was extremely well read and a master raconteur and could connect with people on so many levels, be it child or an adult. He was a real mensch, a prince among men, who impacted, in a most positive way, anyone who was fortunate enough to know him. He will be greatly missed by everyone whose life he touched. He will be particularly missed by his grandchildren who all had a strong and unique relationship with their Zaidy Didi.
We are forever grateful to our dear friends; Doctors Norman Wolkove, Jonathan Cooperman, David Langleben, Moish Lieberman and Andre Lisbona - for your care, love, and support. Special Thanks to Dr. Shamy, Dr. Johnson, Dr. Melmed and Dr. Peretz-Larochelle as well as the JGH 7K and ICU teams for making a difference in his final days.
