KALMANOVITCH (KALMAN), George. Peacefully, in his sleep on Sunday, June 3, 2007 in Calgary. Beloved husband of the late Laura Schwartz. George is survived by his three children Norm (Helene), Willy (Zoe) of Calgary, and Beryl Corber (Mike) of Ottawa; and eight grand children, Margot in Australia, Daniel, Alicia, Ryan, and Sarah in Calgary, and Andrew, Emily, and Matthew in Ottawa. Predeceased by his sister Bertha Ray and survived by nephews Mark and Nathan Ray. George was born in Montreal on July 12, 1920, and lived there until 2003 when his wife Laura passed away and he moved to Calgary where his two sons lived. George served with the 17th Duke of York's Royal Canadian Hussars during the war and after the war remained very active with his legion branch, serving on the executive and managing the poppy fund. George worked for Pascal Hotel Supplies until his retirement in 1985. After retiring, he pursued his life long ambition to learn and registered for a special university course for seniors at College Marie Victorian becoming one of the first graduates of this course. In addition to this George and Laura attended several "Elder hostels" that included learning and travel. He filled the rest of his time doing community service such as "meals on wheels" and visiting veterans in the hospital. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W. on June 6 at 2 p.m. Burial at the Farband Labour Zionist Cemetery, de la Savane. Shiva private in Calgary.
