Jean Pierre "JP" Surkis (2012) It is with great sadness that we inform you of the death of Jean Pierre "JP" Surkis of Bathurst, which occurred at his residence, at the age of 77, following a long illness, Sunday April 8, 2012. Besides his beloved wife for 57 years, Liliane, he is survived by his son, Hymie (Diane Holt) of Bathurst; her daughter, Murielle of Montreal; her grandchildren: Aaron (CĂ©line) of Toronto, Sabra Surkis (Kelly Sturgess) of Wainwright, Alta. and her great-granddaughter, Marlo Surkis. JP was born in Romania, he was the son of the late Clara and Chaim Surkis. He moved to Bathurst, New Brunswick, in 1956. He worked for several years at the "Sand" store before opening his own business, JP Furniture and Ameublement du Nord, which he managed for several years, until upon his retirement. JP was a kind and generous businessman. He had a very nice personality. Everything that JP did, he did with greatness and everyone expected that from him. His strong baritone voice was always heard, his cigars, his jewelry, his social side, while enjoying a drink, and his joie de vivre will be missed by everyone, family and friends. The funeral was entrusted to the professional care of the Elhatton Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com) in Bathurst and the Paperman et Fils Funeral Home in Montreal. Rabbi Micheal Whitman celebrated the service on Tuesday, April 10, in the Paperman et Fils chapel, followed by the burial in the Baron de Hirsch cemetery, in the section of the Memorial Park in Montreal. The burial ended with the reading of the 23rd psalm "The Lord is my Shepherd". Special thanks to the carriers: Aaron Surkis, Neil Donnelly, Bob DeGrace, Ian Oliver, Joel Silver, Olivier Meslage and Usher Nadler. The family also wants to thank the staff of the extra-mural for their good care, their friends, Dr. Wade and their dedicated carers: Claudette, Yvonne, Marie, Liliane and Della. In memory of JP, a donation can be made to Lewy Body Dementia or to a charity of the donor's choice. |
